Stearns Hoping to Convert Lower Level Form

She is just 21 and from being 508th in the world in June 2022, Stearns has climbed up the charts to come close to breaking into the top 50.

And that has been down to her performances on the ITF circuit on which she has won four titles over the last 15 months or so. And even when she is not clinching tournaments, Stearns has been doing well and going deep in competitions.

Stearns also made it to the final of the Bogota Open on clay and had a solid clay court swing overall.

A switch to grass and beyond hasn’t been that kind for the American though. She failed to qualify for the Berlin Open, lost in the first round at Wimbledon and in the three hardcourt competitions she has played since, has won just one round.

And even that came in Washington where she had made the main draw as a lucky loser.

Can Stearns now live up to her 4/6 (bet365) winning odds against a clay-court specialist?

Trevisan Showing Signs of Hardcourt Resurrection

While Trevisan’s rise to her career-best ranking of 18th in the world came thanks to her performances in clay-court competitions, she has had a few struggles on that surface this year. What’s been fascinating to watch, however, is that Trevisan has done way better in hardcourt tournaments this season than ever before.

It started with a couple of wins at the United Cup in the first week of the year before she made the quarterfinal at the Miami Open. Since then she has won a couple of rounds in three clay-court competitions but never gone beyond that.

More recently, she shifted to the North American hardcourt swing with an appearance at the Cincinnati Open where she came through the qualifiers to set up a meeting with Bernarda Pera. With Pera struggling to get going herself, Trevisan went into the encounter as a favourite and came through from being a set down.

She lost to Jessica Pegula in the second round though and then fell to Xiyu Wang in the qualifiers here. Fortunately for Trevisan, she has another chance to feature in the main draw as a lucky loser but starts off a 6/5 underdog here with bet365.
