Clara Burel v Xinyu Wang Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came on the ITF circuit and Wang had won that 2020 encounter.

Burel Fights Through the Qualifiers

Dalayna Hewitt isn’t quite a known player in the world of tennis and the 501st-ranked in the world was a distant 4/1 underdog going into her first qualifying round encounter against Burel. Burel needed to overcome a first set deficit, save a match-point and win the match in the third to make it to the second qualifier.

Burel then edged past Sara Sorribes Tormo to enter the main draw and set up this meeting with Wang.

In doing so, Burel will be playing in only her third main draw tournament on hardcourt surface, having reached the second round at both, the Australian Open and Lyon Open earlier this year.

Making her debut in Cleveland, Burel’s overall record in outdoor hardcourt competitions isn’t amazing with the Frenchwoman having barely won any matches on it.

That will make things really difficult for her as she takes on a fellow qualifier in this opener, with Burel starting out a 11/10 underdog in this one with bet365.

Wang Hoping to Break into the Top 50

At her current ranking of 56th, Wang is at her career-best at the moment and she will hope to continue marching forward and breaking into the top 50. Such is the slenderness of the lead that those ahead of her on the WTA charts have, even a couple of victories in this tournament could help Wang make it to the top 50.

In more recent times, Wang opted not to participate in either the Canadian Open or the Cincinnati Open; instead she featured in an ITF tournament in Landisville. She went on defeat Madison Brengle in the final to lift that title.

And in Cleveland too, Wang was forced to feature in the qualifiers to enter the main draw which she did with consummate ease.

Wang defeated Ena Shibahara and Jamie Loeb in straight sets to set up her meeting with Burel and now starts off a 4/6 favourite (with bet365).

Burel v Wang Prediction and Tip

Backing Wang for a straightforward win here which shouldn’t take her too long. Straight sets.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Wang to win: 4/6 (with bet365)
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 20.5 games in the match: 5/6 (with bet365)
