Mirra Andreeva v Tamara Korpatsch Head to Head

They played in the Wimbledon 2023 qualifiers earlier this year and Andreeva had come through in a hard-fought three-setter.

Korpatsch Replaces Venus as a Lucky Loser

A semifinalist on the hardcourts of the Prague Open earlier this year, Korpatsch then featured in the WTA 125 event in Stanford where she made the second round. It was surprising to see her give the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open a miss.

She then opted to feature in the Cleveland Open as a means to get herself some valuable practice before the US Open but even that looked to be going against her when she fell to Magdalena Frech in the qualifiers.

Fortunately for her, Venus Williams, who was supposed to take on Andreeva here, withdrew from the competition because of a knee injury and here she is, making the main draw.

Unfortunately for Korpatsch, her record in hardcourt competitions has been so underwhelming before that semifinal appearance in Prague that it’s tough to see how she will get past Andreeva. In the fist three months of the season, she played in eight such tournaments and lost eight matches.

Can she give Andreeva a bit of a run for her money?

Andreeva Hasn’t Played a Hardcourt Match This Year

For a player who won a couple of ITF tournaments on the hardcourt surface, it’s a surprise that Andreeva hasn’t played a single match on that surface this season so far.

The world number 67, who recently hit her career-best ranking of 62nd following her fourth round appearance at Wimbledon after starting out as a qualifier, then proceeded to feature at the Lausanne Open on clay. There she made the second round before falling to Anna Bondar.

Nearly a month onward, Andreeva (who is 2/11 to win this with bet365) will now feature in the first ever match of her career on the North American hardcourt swing.

If you are wondering how she went on this surface last year, her overall record is a pretty solid 21-5. None of those matches obviously came on the WTA circuit and she will hope she can kick-start that part of her journey with a win.

Andreeva v Korpatsch Prediction and Tip

Andreeva might be playing her first match on this surface but we need to go with her for the win. A straight-set victory too.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Andreeva to win in straight sets: 1/2 (with bet365)
