Richard Gasquet v Marc-Andrea Huesler Head to Head

Gasuqet and Huesler have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Gasquet on a Six-Match Losing Streak

Take his performances on the Challenger tour and the Hopman Cup out of this and Gasquet’s form has taken a deep nose-dive. He last won a competitive match at the highest level in Stuttgart in June and since then has lost six in a row including five in the first round of tournaments.

The last of those losses came at the Cincinnati Masters where Gasquet was sent packing in straight sets by an equally veteran tennis player and fellow Frenchman Adrian Mannarino.

Which is a bit of a surprise because Gasquet looked like he had things under control in the first half of the season.

Having already won a title earlier this season in Auckland with a shocking win over Cameron Norrie in the final, Gasquet had a run of tournaments in which he made the second round at the very least. And in Stuttgart, Gasquet overcame Christopher Eubanks and then shocked Stefanos Tsitsipas to reach the quarterfinal.

Since then, however, his wins have dried up and while he starts off a 4/5 favourite with bet365 in this match, it won’t be an easy one for him.

Huesler Benefits from Shevchenko Retirement

Huesler was an 11/10 underdog (with bet365) going into his first round match against Alexander Shevchenko which wasn’t much of a surprise given his penchant to carve out results on clay.

However, a fighting showing in the first two sets of the encounter gave Huesler a chance to grab the win in the final set. And that’s exactly what he did when he racked up a 4-0 lead before his opponent retired from the match because of fitness concerns.

The match lasted an hour and a half and saw Huesler leading 6-3, 4-6, 4-0 when Shevchenko threw in the towel.

This was only Huesler’s sixth win in a hardcourt competition main draw this year. He has won back to back matches on this surface just once this year and that came at the United Cup in the first week of January.

Can he turn that around here?

Gasquet v Huesler Prediction and Tip

Gasquet finally has a chance to turn his poor form around but it won’t be easy as Huesler enters this encounter on the back of a confidence-inducing win. Expecting a three-setter to go Gasquet’s way here.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Gasquet to win: 4/5 (with bet365)
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 23.5 games in the match: 5/6 (with bet365)
