China’s Zhu Lin knocked out eighth seed Ana Blinkova in straight sets on Monday to reach the second round in Cleveland.

The world no. 48, who was on a four match losing streak coming into the tournament, ended the slide with a 6-0, 6-3 drubbing of the Russian on Monday.

Zhu won 60% points in the match broke her opponent six times to advance. She improved her season record to 19-16 with the win, which includes a 15-11 run on hard courts.

A champion in Hua Hin this year, Zhu was also a semifinalist in Monterrey and Birmingham and a quarterfinalist in Auckland.

Grabher Eases Past Wang

World no. 54 Julia Grabher eased into the second round with a straight sets win over China’s Xiyu Wang.

Grabher, who won her 12th ITF title last week by beating Jéssica Bouzas Maneiro in the final in Maspalomas Gran Canaria, needed an hour and 30 minutes to beat the world no. 84, 6-3, 6-4.

The Austrian was broken in the very first game of the match, but she clawed her way back, winning the last five games of the set to take a one-set-to-love lead. She kept the momentum going in the second set and won the first four games in a row to get a firm grip on the match. Wang did get a late break in the set but Grabher made sure she protected the other break to win the contest 6-3, 6-4.

She improved to 23-26 across levels and is on a six-match winning streak, a series of wins which started in the Maspalomas ITF last week.

Grabher, who reached her maiden WTA final in Rabat this year, will be hoping to reach her second WTA quarterfinal of the season.

Zhu v Grabher Prediction and Tip

While Grabher is a good clay court player, Zhu has a far superior record on hard courts and she is expected to beat the Austrian in the second round.
