Aleksandar Vukic v Luca Van Assche Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the 2022 Maia Challenger where Van Assche won their clay court encounter in three sets on his way to winning the title.

Vukic Coming off a Third Round in Toronto

It’s been quite a memorable hardcourt season for Vukic who has used those results to catapult from outside the top 200 of his rankings to 51st in the world.

And while a part of that can be attributed to his performances on the Challenger Tour, Vukic has been able to convert that form into some solid results at the highest level too.

It was at the Atlanta Open that things came to fruition as Vukic was able to roll past three opponents despite starting out a second favourite to reach the final. And while Taylor Fritz got the better of him in that title-decider, Vukic took his top-10 opponent to a third set.

This was followed by a first round exit at Washington – understandably so given there was just a day’s break between the Atlanta final and that opener – but he did well to overcome Borna Coric and Sebastian Korda on his way to the third round of the Canadian Open.

He will hope to put up a showing on his Winston-Salem debut here.

Van Assche Continues to Improve

Ranked 152nd in the world in February this year, Van Assche hit a career-high of 65th very recently despite his qualifier defeat in the Cincinnati Masters.

Most of Van Assche’s successes have come on clay though with his performances in hardcourt competitions being hardly of note. In fact his first round win over Thai-Son Kwiatkowski was his first ever on this surface having lost four previous matches.

Having started out a 1/2 favourite with bet365 in his opener, Van Assche was forced to overcome a first set deficit before winning 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 and reaching round two. He was broken three times in the process.

Coming up against Vukic, who has also vastly improved this year but more importantly loves his time in hardcourt tournaments, things are expected to get a lot more challenging for Van Assche.

Vukic v Van Assche Prediction and Tip

While Vukic had lost his previous meeting with Van Assche, a change in surface should change the result dramatically. Expecting Vukic to clinch this in two.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Vukic to win in straight sets: 8/11 (with bet365)
