Garbine Muguruza v Kristina Mladenovic Head to Head

Muguruza and Mladenovic have met only twice on the tour. Both of those matches were won by the Frenchwoman, with their last meeting taking place in the 2017 French Open.

Muguruza in Need of a Strong Performance

Muguruza’s struggles with form are something that we have been witnessing since the previous season. She dropped out of the top 10 as a result of that and this season too, things haven’t changed considerably.

The 2017 Wimbledon Champion started the year with an average performance in Sydney and the Australian Open, reaching the second and fourth round respectively. She then played in Hua Hin where she reached the quarterfinal and emulated a similar run in Indian Wells too, losing to Bianca Andreescu on that occasion.

In Miami, she lost her opening match to Monica Niculescu in three sets, thus further diminishing her hopes of a resurgence. So far in Monterrey, however, she reached the quarterfinal on the back of wins over Gabriela-Elena Ruse and Margarita Gasparyan.

Mladenovic Hoping to Draw from Doubles Success

Mladenovic’s performance this season has been fairly more disappointing than that of her Spanish adversary. In her first four tournaments of the year, she lost all of her opening matches, including the ones in Melbourne and St. Petersburg.

At the same time, she was the runner-up in the Australian Open Women’s Doubles, partnered with Timea Babos.

She won her first match of the season in Dubai and reached the third round after upsetting Naomi Osaka. However, she couldn’t hold on to that momentum and once again, fell in the same spell of early losses in Indian Wells and Miami.

In Monterrey, she defeated Beatriz Haddad Maia in three sets in the first round. Then, she followed it with a straight set win over Greta Arn.

Muguruza v Mladenovic Predictions & Tips

On one hand, Mladenovic has a 2-0 lead over Muguruza while on the other, she hasn’t been in that great of a form of late. In terms of winning rate, Muguruza’s run has been far better than hers and that may very well negate the psychological edge that Mladenovic holds.

Ideally, Muguruza will start this game as the favourite to win although, it may not be a clinical win.

Tip: Over 19.5 games in the match: 8/11 (betway)
