Having begun the season with her maiden Grand Slam win at the Australian Open, Sabalenka then looked like was going to add the Indian Wells Open title to her kitty when she reached the final there. Elena Rybakina got the better of her there and since that moment, Sabalenka hasn’t reached another final in a hardcourt tournament.
Sabalenka featured at the Miami Open and was ousted in the quarterfinals, while more recently, she fell to Liudmilla Samsonova and Karolina Muchova at the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open respectively.
While that will make Sabalenka’s job slightly difficult as she enters the season’s final Grand Slam, she has another motivation coming into this tournament.

Zanevska in a Bit of Strife
Things haven’t been going too well for Zanevska as she continues to slide down the WTA Rankings thanks to her underwhelming performances over the last few months.
Ranked 75th at one point this season, she has fallen to 112th at the moment and enters this tournament on the back of seven successive defeats on the WTA circuit. Her last win had come on the WTA 125 circuit when she won at the Saint-Malo Open while having earlier defeated Sofia Kenin in a shock Madrid Open result.
Unfortunately for her, that winless record could continue at the moment with Zanevska having run into a player of Sabalenka’s calibre first up.
What she could hope for is to push her opponent hard but on a hardcourt surface, the fear is it could turn into a one-sided affair with Zanevska at 14/1 (with bet365) to win this.
