Tommy Paul v Stefano Travaglia Head to Head

There have been three previous meetings between these two and Paul has won every single time including one in the qualifiers of the 2021 Paris Masters.

Paul Hoping to Replicate Australian Open Form

Earlier this year, Paul had surprised the world of tennis by racing through his Australian Open opponents to make it to the semifinals.

He would go on to replicate that hardcourt form at the Acapulco Open where he reached the final before de Minaur got the better of him.

While Paul struggled to get going on clay, he returned on grass with a finals appearance at the Eastbourne International and a 9-5 win-loss record on it. And now that he is back playing hardcourt competitions, Paul has already made the semifinal at the Canadian Masters and the third round at the Cincinnati Masters.

Overall his hardcourt record for the season reads a solid 22-9 for the season and he will now hope he can get the better of his own previous showing of a third round appearance at the US Open last year. He is a 1/4 (with bet365) to win this.

Travaglia Trying to Claw Back Up the Rankings

It was around February 2021 when Travaglia had hit his career-best ranking of 60th in the world. He would have been hoping to rise further up, breaking into the top 50 at the very least.

What transpired was something totally different.

Travaglia ended that season ranked 100th in the world by the end of 2022, he had fallen outside of the top 300 with a string of underwhelming results under his belt.

Earlier this year, Travaglia’s slide continued as he hit a low of 409th in February – just two years after his career-best ranking – but since then he has managed to claw back a little. Featuring in Futures and Challengers matches alone, Travaglia made the final at one of them and the semifinal at another while featuring in just one top-level ATP tournament.

Now with Travaglia’s confidence having been restored, he has done well to make it to the main draw here with wins over Norbert Gombos, John Millman and Arthur Cazaux, despite starting out a 6/4 and 3/1 underdog (with bet365) in those last two matches.

Can he now turn things around at the highest level too?

Paul v Travaglia Prediction and Tip

While Travaglia looks like he is doing well to turn things around, he might not have much of a chance in a hardcourt surface against a player of Paul’s calibre. A straight-set win looks a likely result here.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Paul to win in straight sets: 1/1 (with bet365)
