Daniel Altmaier v Constant Lestienne Head to Head

They played two times on the Challenger Tour but never on the ATP Tour. Lestienne won the hard court one while Altmaier won the clay one.

Altmaier Hoping For A Win

Daniel Altmaier theoretically doesn’t play his best tennis on hard courts, but he’s not bad on it by any means. He has a powerful serve which will serve him well in New York. He also has a good baseline game which is important, but he tends to play better on clay.

It’s why he won their only clay meeting while he lost the hard court one. His record this year has been pretty decent, with 29 wins and 25 losses, but his form recently hasn’t been that great. He lost to Corentin Moutet in the Cincinnati Qualifiers.

He did have a decent win over Christopher O’Connell at the same event so that’s a good win he can build upon. When it comes to his hard court record this year it’s okay. 7 wins and 9 losses isn’t anything to write home about but still pretty decent.

The US Open has been okay for him in the past. He took Jannik Sinner to five sets last year so that’s a clear sign that he can do well in New York. Lestienne will be tough to beat but he’s not the toughest opponent out there. A good showing will get it done.

Lestienne Hopes To Win

It’s been a rather poor season for the French veteran though he looked quite a bit better lately than before. Hard courts are statistically his best courts, and he showed it recently. He had a good outing at the Stanford challenger, which he won by beating native player Emilio Nava in the final.

He played in Winston-Salem after that but lost early due to the rather quick turnaround and having to play so soon after his final. Dominik Koepfer was better, but it was still a close match which indicates the improved form from Lestienne.

The year overall has been quite poor. Only 14 wins and 22 losses is not a good record for a player that aims to be ranked in the top 100. The US Open is a decent court for him, but he will be vulnerable against aggressive players like Altmaier.

He’s beaten him in their previous hard court match, so there is that. If he can produce a similar level he could win but it’s going to come easy.

Altmaier v Lestienne Prediction and Tip

This one is going to be interesting. Lestienne technically is the better hard court player but Altmaier has more weapons so I’ll go with him.

Tips:

  • High Risk Tip: Altmaier to win in four sets: 4/1 (with bet365)
