Stan Wawrinka v Yoshihito Nishioka Head to Head
They played once many years ago at Indian Wells and Wawrinka won that match.

Wawrinka Seeking Some Wins
Stan Wawrinka has played some pretty good tennis this year with a couple of impressive wins. He’s been really good lately, too, with wins over the likes of Brandon Nakashima and Frances Tiafoe. The US Open should certainly see him produce a good level.
He’s won the event in the past and likes to play on these courts. The eleven generally has been pretty good with an overall record of 24-16. He’s 6-4 on hard court with a 1st round exit last year. It was a retirement against Corentin Moutet after two sets.
The Swiss veteran will likely attack with his groundstrokes and should find some good angles against Nishioka, who likes to play aggressive tennis as well. One thing Wawrinka likely has an advantage in is the serve.
He’s far more likely to get more free points on the serve if he hits it, of course. That could be crucial in any tiebreaks, and I think we’ll see at least one.

Nishioka Hopeful Of Ending Bad Run
Nishioka hasn’t been playing that well lately, with plenty of losses and only one recent win over Gregoire Barrere. He played quite well against Alexander Zverev, too but couldn’t get it done. Wawrinka will present a chance, but will he be able to get the win, that’s the question.
The last time Nishioka played Wawrinka was a close 3-set match, and we’re likely to see another one. He’ll need to outplay him from the baseline; that’s non-negotiable. If he can’t do that, then there won’t be any alleys for him to win the match.
The overall year has been poor. Only 14 wins but also not too many losses at 16. It’s been a lot of quick exits from the Japanese players, as he didn’t win back-to-back matches since the French Open.
He also hasn’t played that well at the US Open. All of his final three appearances ended in the first round. Last year it was Davidovich Fokina who beat him in four sets.
Wawrinka v Nishioka Prediction and Tip
Considering everything we saw from both players I’d be pretty stunned if Wawrinka doesn’t pull out this win.

- Moderate Risk Tip: Wawrinka to win: 8/11 (with bet365)
