Sloane Stephens v Madison Keys Head to Head
The two ladies have met only thrice on the WTA Tour and Stephens has won all of those matches. They last met in the semifinal of the 2018 French Open, where the American No. 1 won 6-4, 6-4 to take a 3-0 lead over Keys in the head to head tally.
Keys Delivers Her Best Performance of the Year
Madison Keys hasn’t had the best of time on the WTA Tour of late. She arrived in Charleston with a win-loss record of 4-4, with three of those wins coming in the Australian Open.
Following her fourth-round stint in Melbourne, the 2018 US Open semifinalist moved on to lose her opening matches in the Indian Wells Open and Miami Open. She also played in the Fed Cup where she won one of her two matches.
In Charleston, she enjoyed a bye into the second round and defeated Tatjana Maria and Jelena Ostapenko to reach the quarterfinal. Keys hasn’t reached a final on the tour since the 2017 US Open, where she lost to none other than Stephens.
Stephens Coming in Strong
Just like Keys, Stephens too hasn’t had that great of a year so far. With the sole exception of her fourth-round stint in the Australian Open, the American lost rather early in Acapulco, Indian Wells, and Miami.
This is certainly not on par with Stephens’ usual form. Last year, she reached the final in the French Open, Canadian Open, and WTA Finals. After a pretty splendid season, she found herself in the top five with all the potential in the world to go up.
However, following a rough start to the year, she slipped down to the number 8 position in the rankings. As for her run in Charleston so far, she defeated Sara Sorribes Tormo and Ajla Tomljanovic.
Stephens v Keys Predictions & Tips
This is an evenly matched fixture that can very well go either way. Neither of the two players is in a great form and they also lack consistency. While Stephens has more winning experience, Keys is certainly a daunting player and a force to be reckoned with. She has a decent record against top 10 players and can very well put Stephens on the backfoot.
