Cameron Norrie v Alexander Shevchenko Head to Head

Norrie and Shevchenko have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Norrie Form a Concern

Having begun as superbly as he did at the start of the season, Norrie’s form has taken a dip ever since then.

In the first half of the year, Norrie was 11-4 in hardcourt competitions and had gone on to make the final of the Buenos Aires Open and win the title at the Rio Open – facing Carlos Alcaraz in both those matches.

He would have liked to do a lot better than his third round appearance at the French Open but things went a further south when he was ousted in the second round at Wimbledon. And since earning that second round berth at that major, Norrie hasn’t won a match.

Defeats in his openers at Los Cabos, Toronto and Cincinnati have left him with a lot to overcome as he takes to court for his opener at the US Open. Norrie also has had a fourth round appearance as his best showing at the US Open which came last year – he will hope he can defend all those points this season despite his poor form.

Shevchenko at Career-Best But Struggling at the Highest Level

At one set all in the first round match between Shevchenko and Marc-Andrea Huesler earlier this week, it was anybody’s win. Unfortunately for Shevchenko, he looked to be in a strife after that, and as he fell to a 4-0 deficit, he opted to retire from the encounter because of fitness concerns.

The question now is whether he has had enough time between then and the start of this major to be able to get back to full fitness and form.

Overall while Shevchenko has hit his his career-best ranking of 84th in the world recently, he hasn’t been doing too much in the main draws of competitions. A win here, a few losses there but he is yet to take the world by fire – especially when it comes to winning more matches against players of the capability of Norrie.

There is something he can take heart from though. Shevchenko had recently surprised Sebastian Korda at the Washington Open, having achieved such results on clay earlier in the season.

Norrie v Shevchenko Prediction and Tip

Norrie starts off a favourite for obvious reasons but now even more so if Shevchenko isn’t at his fittest. If it was not for his injury, we would have gone with Norrie to win in four or five sets, now we aren’t very sure of that.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Norrie to win: 1/3 (with bet365)
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 30.5 games in the match: 5/6 (with bet365)
