Djere Is 1-5 at the U.S. Open

After being blown away by Sebastian Baez in the quarterfinal of the Winston-Salem Open, Laslo Djere will look to shake off the setback and make a good start at the U.S. Open.

Djere, who had won his first two rounds at Winston-Salem withe ease, was beaten 6-3, 6-0 by the Argentine in the last eight stage.

Overall, it has been a decent year for the Serb, with his best coming on his favourite surface – the clay. The 28-year-old reached his only final of the season in Hamburg and also featured in the semifinals in Kitzbuhel.

He has a 28-20 record this season, but on hard court, Djere is 8-6, with two quarterfinal appearances in Auckland and Winston-Salem.

Can he deliver good results at the US open? He doesn’t have a great record in the tournament. After reaching the second round on his debut in 2018, he has lost four opening round matches on the trot. Can he go past the first round in this year’s edition?

Nakashima Struggling This Year

World no. 72 Brandon Nakashima has struggled for most parts of the season and an 11-17 season record is a reflection of that.

The 22-year-old American, who was a semifinalist on clay in Lyon, has won consecutive matches only twice this year. One of those occasions was in Lyon and the other at the Winston-Salem Open this week, when he won the first two rounds, but fell in three sets to Richard Gasquet in the third round.

Nakashima, who won the NextGen title last year, will be making his fourth appearance at the U.S. Open.

While he reached the second rounds in 2020 and 2021, he made his third round debut last year.

Can he get his campaign off to a fine start?

Djere v Nakashima Prediction and Tip

This is going to be a close contest. Nakashima is a slight favourite, as he is a better hard court player. He also has a better record at the US Open. Expect a four or five setter with Nakashima edging through.

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Nakashima to win: 4/6 (with bet365)
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 35.5 games in the match: 5/6 (with bet365)
