Sorana Cirstea v Kayla Day Head to Head
This will be their first meeting on the WTA Tour.

Cirstea Low on Form
Romania’s Sorana Cirstea is all set to compete in her 15th US Open. Through the years, the best she has done is reaching round three – the last time being in the 2020 edition. In her last two times in New York, she has had to settle for round two losses.
These kinds of mid-stage appearances perhaps best describe Cirstea’s recent stints on the circuit. Participating in the Citi Open, Canadian Open, and Cinci Masters, she had to make do with second-round defeats in all three tournaments.
That said, Sorana did surprise everyone early in the season by reaching the quarters at Indian Wells and the final four in Miami – the latter being the best WTA 1000 result of her career. A few weeks later, she also bagged the Reus Challenger title in Spain.
Cirstea’s record is now at 26-18, and finds herself ranked World No. 30. While consistency may not be her strong suit, she is certainly skilled and experienced enough to cause all sorts of problems for her opponents.

Day Working Hard
Kayla Day, age 23, will feature at the Flushing Meadows this week on the back of a career-best singles ranking.
With 32 wins to 18 defeats in 2023, Day has moved up to the 91st spot on the charts. To her credit, she won two ITF 100 events, in addition to reaching round three at the French Open – as a qualifier.
In the Paris Slam, Kayla impressed a great deal by beating experienced stars like Kristina Mladenovic and Madison Keys.
Day has spent the majority of the season competing in low-tier events to build some rhythm and confidence. Her last tournament was Stanford 125K, where she lost in round two to Jodie Burrage.
The home favourite will hope to take some of that and turn it into something positive in NY.
Cirstea v Day Prediction and Tip
Cirstea starts as the favourite but don’t be quick to dismiss Day; the American is playing at home after all, and can cause an early upset. Expect a cracking affair.
Tips:
- Low-Risk Tip: Cirstea to win: 1/3 (with bet365)
- Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6 (with bet365)
