Isner Receives a Wild Card

Former world no. 8 John Isner is set to make his 17th consecutive main draw appearance at the US Open. The big-serving American is 31-15 at the New York major and his best saw him reach the quarterfinals in 2011 and 2018.

The 38-year-old is currently ranked 158th in the world and has been handed a wild card for this year’s final slam.

It has been a tough year for Isner, who has made 10 first round exits from his 13 tournaments this year. But amid all those disappointments, the 16-time tour level champion reached a 31st ATP final in Dallas, only to finish runner-up in the tournament. He also reached the semifinals in Newport and bowed out of the second round in Los Cabos.

So it has been a roller-coaster season for the American. He will be eager to put up a decent show at the US Open and his vast experience may help him get through his opening round.

Diaz Acosta on Debut

Argentina’s Facundo Diaz Acosta will make his U.S. Open main draw debut this year. He made his grand slam debut earlier this season, falling in the first round at Roland Garros.

The 22-year-old Argentine is 2-3 at the tour level this season. While he may be inexperienced at the top level, he has played a lot of tennis at the Challenger level, winning two titles on clay and finishing runner-up in a third clay court final.

While he has an overall record of 34-14 on clay this year, he is 4-3 on hard courts.

Diaz Acosta’s lack of experience on hard court might work against him in the opener against a seasoned campaigner.

Isner v Diaz Acosta Prediction and Tip

Isner may be ranked much lower than the Argentine, he is the superior player in this contest. He is far more experienced and has a way superior record. Expect the American to reach the next round.
