More known for his performance on clay, Musetti has had his moments in hardcourt tennis but he would like to do a lot better.
For instance, his North American hardcourt swing record for this season is 3-2 with Musetti having reached the third round at the Canadian Masters before getting knocked out in the second in Cincinnati. Droguet Makes it to Maiden Grand Slam
22-year-old Droquet is in his first year of playing in Grand Slam events with his first ever attempt coming at the French Open where he was knocked out in the very first qualifying round.
This time around at the US Open, Droquet shocked Cristian Garin in that opener despite starting out a 3/1 (with bet365) underdog before overcoming Tennys Sandgren and Kimmer Coppejans in the next two rounds.
This is no mean achievement for a player so well-entrenched on clay that these three qualifier matches were his first in hardcourt competitions for the season.
Even more interestingly, Droquet has barely had any success on the Challenger tour either with all his four titles having come on the Futures circuit. Droquet has a tough ask now to defeat a seeded player who can hold his own on hardcourt surfaces, but the one thing he won’t be too short of is confidence.
