Gregoire Barrere v Jakub Mensik Head to Head
The pair have never played each other before.
This will be the first match between the 29 year old Frenchman, and the Czech teenager, 12 years his junior.

Barrere’s Modest Grand Slam Record
Barrere’s Grand Slam record can best be described as modest. He has never been beyond the second round of any of them, the stage that he has reached in New York twice, although he did not even qualify last year.
However, he has enjoyed his best year on tour to date, and reached a career high ranking, after a series of fine performances which included reaching the third round in Miami and the Italian Open, and getting to the semi-finals in Eastbourne.
And, earlier in the year, he won a Challenger tournament in France.
Unfortunately for him, results have been harder to come by recently. He reached the second round of Wimbledon and again in Washington, but then suffered back to back first round losses in Toronto and Cincinnati.

17 Year Old Qualifier Mensik
This has already been a year to remember for 17 year old Mensik, who was the beaten finalist in the boys’ singles at the Australian Open final last year.
In April he won a World Tennis Tour title, before stepping up to the Challenger tour the following month, where he achieved his first victory in a competition at that level on clay.
However, to qualify for the US Open for the first time in his career outstrips all those achievements, especially given the calibre of some of the men he had to beat to do so.
First he defeated a former top ten player in the shape of Fabio Fognini of Italy, and then Leandro Riedi of Switzerland, an established player and winner on the Challenger circuit.
And he booked his passage into the main draw finally with a straight sets’ defeat of compatriot Zdenek Kolar.
Barrere v Mensik Prediction and Tip
Given the chasm in experience between these two, Barrere will begin as the heavy favourite for this match, although he does not have a good record in Grand Slams.
Mensik, though, will have very little to lose and can enjoy himself during what should be a good learning experience for him.
Tips:
- Low Risk Tip: Barrere to win: 5/9 (with bet365)
- Moderate Risk Tip: Under 31.5 games in the match: 5/6 (with bet365)
