Tomova Wins Chicago
Viktoriya Tomova prepared for the US Open in Chicago and played at the WTA 125 event there. It’s a smaller event but still features a strong field with many good players. Tomova made it to the final and bested native player Claire Liu in the final to win the trophy.
It’s the perfect preparation for the US Open but also one that might impact her negatively. There is an unwritten rule in tennis that players generally struggle in the week following a trophy. It’s a combination of both mental and physical fatigue that gives player trouble
Tomovoa will need to find a way to overcome that, but it’s going to be tough against a solid player who is American on top of that. She’s had a good year so far with a 32-23 record. Her hard court one is pretty good as well (13-7) so there is no reason why she couldn’t win.
Fatigue will be a factor but if she overcomes it, then she might just win.
