Dan Evans v Daniel Elahi Galan Head to Head

Evans and Galan have never faced off before this.

Evans in a Topsy-Turvy Season

On the one hand is Evans, the player who has made the third round of the Australian Open, semifinal at the Barcelona Open and more recently won an ATP 500 tournament in Washington.

On the other, Evans has won just two other main draw matches across all the competitions he has taken part in.

Overall, Evans enters this year’s US Open on the back of a 14-21 win-loss record which, rather surprisingly, hasn’t affected his ranking too much with the Brit having started the season having been ranked 27th in the world. He is currently ranked 28th.

What now needs to be seen is if he can emulate his previous showing at the US Open with Evans having made the third round here last season. Without such a showing he is bound to lose a few more spots on the ATP charts but more importantly, it will be another indicator of his horribly topsy-turvy-going season.

Evans starts off a 1/3 favourite here with bet365.

Galan Surprised in Winston-Salem

Hardcourt isn’t quite Galan’s most preferred surface and that can be seen from how poorly he has done on it this year.

In fact more than his underwhelming performances what can be quickly added is the fact he has played very little in hardcourt competitions, even leading up to the US Open.

After having gotten knocked out in the first round of the Adelaide International and Australian Open, Galan featured in Indian Wells and Miami. And again he didn’t survive his opening round opponents.

More recently, Galan was knocked out in the qualifiers of the Cincinnati Masters and it was only in Winston-Salem did he finally clinch his first ever win in a hardcourt competition this year. It came against Radu Albot but what was more interesting to note is that despite starting out a favourite in the second round against Sebastian Baez he was sent packing.

Can he now put up any kind of a fight against Evans despite starting out a 5/2 (with bet365) underdog?

Evans v Galan Prediction and Tip

While Evans has had his issues in recent times, he should not have a lot of problems getting past Galan and might even do that in straight sets.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Evans to win: 2/7 (with bet365)
  • High Risk Tip: Evans to win in straight sets: 13/8 (with bet365)
