Vickery Comes Through Qualifiers
World no. 204 Sachia Vickery got an easy pass into the main draw after her third qualifying round opponent, Yanina Wickmayer retired while trailing 1-3 in the first set.
Vickery had won her first qualifying round by beating Irene Burillo Escorihuela 6-7 (8-10), 6-3, 6-0 and then she scored another comeback win in the second qualifying round, defeating Viktorija Golubic 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.
The 28-year-old former world no. 73 is making her sixth main draw appearance at the U.S. Open and she is 3-5 from her past appearances.
Vickery is 28-18 across levels this year, having reached a semifinal and a few quarterfinals this season.
