Twenty-year-old Qinwen Zheng has been very impressive this season. The Chinese player has a 25-16 record across levels and she is 14-9 on hard courts.
Zheng captured her maiden WTA title this season by beating Jasmine Paolini in the Palermo final. In her other notable performances, she was a semifinalist in Abu Dhabi and a quarterfinalist in Madrid.
Most recently, she reached the third round in Cincinnati only to fall to Iga Swiatek in three sets.
This will be Zheng’s eighth consecutive main draw appearance in a major and only once in her past seven tournaments has she lost in the first round. At the US Open, this is her second appearance.

2020 French Open semifinalist Nadia Podoroska is set to make her fourth main draw appearance at the US Open.
The Argentine is yet to win a match in the final slam of the season and may find it difficult once again as she comes up against the world no. 23 in the first round.
Ranked no. 70, the 26-year-old is 29-23 overall this season, and once again, she produced her best results on clay than on other surfaces. Among the highlights of her season was a maiden WTA Challenger title in Copa Bionaire, Colombia.
At the tour level, her best was a semifinal finish in Budapest.
