Elena Rybakina v Ajla Tomljanovic Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these two players and Rybakina has won them both. They came at the 2021 Madrid Open and 2022 Wimbledon.
This will be their first meeting in a hardcourt competition.

Marta Kostyuk is a tricky opponent, especially one is up against her so early in the tournament. Ask Maria Sakkari, who was drawn to play Kostyuk in the first round at Wimbledon and lost the encounter after winning the first set 6-0.
There was no such respite for Kostyuk against Rybakina, as the former Wimbledon winner raced to a 6-2, 6-1 win in her first round match. Rybakina was on court for a mere hour and 24 minutes as she shrugged off an early trade of service breaks to get past Kostyuk’s serve four more times in the encounter.
A first serve percentage of 75% thanks to her 26 winners was the cornerstone of Rybakina’s success as she made it her 26th win of the season in a hardcourt competition to go with a mere seven losses.
Rybakina had earlier made the semifinal at the Canadian Open before being forced to retire from the third round of the Cincinnati Open because of an injury. Here though she looked to have shrugged off any such performance woes to ease to a win.

Tomljanovic Returns with a Win
It took Tomljanovic some time to get going in her opener against Panna Udvardy but once she had done that, the Aussie was able to grab her first win of the season.
Tomljanovic hadn’t played all season because of lingering fitness concerns but when she finally made it to the courts at US Open, she was deemed to be a 2/5 favourite with bet365 against a struggling Udvardy.
Instead, a rusty Tomljanovic stumbled with her serving in the first set, dropping her serve every single time in the opening set.
Things changed for the better when the Aussie finally held on to her serve for the first time in the match and immediately responded with a break of serve. A second service break won Tomljanovic the set.
In the decider, Udvardy grabbed a 2-0 lead only to drop her serve soon after. The match went right down to the wire but with Udvardy serving at 4-5 to stay in the encounter, she was broken and with it went her chances to salvage a win.
Tomljanovic is distant 11/2 (with bet365) to win this.
