Carlos Alcaraz v Lloyd Harris Head to Head
Alcaraz and Harris have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Alcaraz Easy Winner Over Retiring Koepfer
While Dominik Koepfer has had a solid season on clay in 2023, his performances in hardcourt competitions have rarely been up to the scratch. And to then face the world number one Carlos Alcaraz in his opener was probably a bit too much to handle.
Alcaraz was leading Koepfer 6-2, 3-2 when Koepfer was unable to handle the pain from an injury he had suffered earlier on when he had rolled his ankle during a rally. The Spaniard was on court for a mere 58 minutes as he begun his title defence this US Open.
Facing a mere two break-points in the encounter, Alcaraz saved them both while getting his opponent’s serve on two occasions in the first set and one in the second.
This was Alcaraz’s 17th win on hardcourt surfaces to go with three defeats, which have come to Jannik Sinner, Tommy Paul and Novak Djokovic. Which is why Alcaraz starts off a 1/50 favourite (with bet365) yet again here against the returning Harris.

Harris Straight-Set Winner over Pella
While Harris has fallen to 177th in the world after having missed most of 2022 because of fitness issues, he had come into his US Open opener as a 2/5 favourite with bet365 because of the nature of his opponent.
Guido Pella is more of a clay-courter and has himself fallen to outside of the top 200 over the years.
Harris played like that favourite too, defeating his Argentine opponent 7-6 (5), 6-4, 6-4 in two hours and eight minutes to clinch his second round berth here after having made it to the quarterfinals the last time he had featured in this tournament in 2021.
A semifinalist at the Mallorca Open earlier this year, Harris hasn’t quite got going in hardcourt competitions having won just two main draw matches here before this. While playing Alcaraz will be a different cup of tea, Harris could put up a bit of a fight here.
Alcaraz v Harris Prediction and Tip
Alcaraz can be expected to win in straight sets, well that would hardly be news, but we think one of the sets could get close and a tie-breaker might come into play.
Tips:
- Moderate Risk Tip: Over 28.5 games in the match: 5/6 (with bet365)
