Caroline Wozniacki v Madison Keys Head to Head
Wozniacki and Keys have met only twice on the WTA Tour. The Dane has won on both the occasions, with her most recent win coming in the 2017 Indian Wells.
Keys’ First Final Since 2017
Madison Keys made her presence known on the WTA Tour sometime back in 2016 when she reached the final of Italian Open and Canadian Open. That year, she also won the Birmingham Classic. The very next season, she was the runner-up in the US Open and had a rather promising rise ahead of her.
Keys struggled a bit with her form in the first half of 2018. In the second half, she gained some traction as she reached the semifinal in the French Open and US Open, and the quarterfinal in Cincinnati.
Even this year, things weren’t that impressive for Keys up until now. While she reached the fourth round in the Australian Open, she lost her opening games in Indian Wells and Miami.
In Charleston, she turned all of it around with the help of a sensational performance. After defeating Tatjana Maria, she dispatched Jelena Ostapenko and the top seed Sloane Stephens. In the quarterfinal, she met Monica Puig and knocked out the Puerto Rican in straight sets.
Keys has had to work hard for those victories, with two of those four wins coming in three sets.
Wozniacki Back to Her Winning Ways
Wozniacki’s start to the year wasn’t that exciting with early losses in Auckland and Melbourne. Then, owing to viral illness and the consequent drop in form, she opted out of the Middle East Swing and returned in Indian Wells.
Given her recent loss of form, her stint in the Sunshine Doubles didn’t go according to the plan. In Indian Wells, she lost the opener to Ekaterina Alexandrova while in Miami, she reached the fourth round before succumbing to Su-Wei Hsieh.
Meanwhile, in Charleston, she has had a much better time, moving past the likes of Laura Siegemund, Mihaela Buzarnescu, and Maria Sakkari with ease. In the semifinal, she defeated Petra Martic 6-3, 6-4 to reach her first final since the last year’s China Open.
Last season, Wozniacki won three singles title and had a much better spell on the tour than Keys.
Wozniacki v Keys Tips & Predictions
For Keys, this is the second time that she has reached the final in Charleston while for Wozniacki, this is her third such instance. The American has never conquered the tournament before while her Danish adversary won the event back in 2011.
Between the two players, it is certainly Wozniacki who will start this match as the favourite to win. She has more experience in comparison to Keys and it is quite evident that she has put her recent loss of form behind. Keys will have a tough time here in overcoming her formidable opponent.
