Tommy Paul v Alejandro Davidovich Fokina Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these two and both of them came earlier this year with both won by Paul. Their Australian Open meeting earlier in 2023 went into a fifth set.

Paul has had a year to remember having climbed to his career-best ranking of 13th in the world. In the US Open so far, things haven’t been as straightforward as he would have liked though as Paul has been stretched by both his opening opponents.
In the first round, Paul had needed four sets to get past Stefano Travalgia but more difficulties lay in store for him when he faced Roman Safiullin in the second.
Two hours into the encounter, Paul was down two sets to one and in a bit of a strife as he found breaking Safiullin’s serve an object in difficulty. In fact, he won just four points off his opponent’s serve in the fourth set till the 10th game when Safiullin served to stay in the encounter.
It was at this point that Paul roared back into the contest by first breaking him to win the set and then repeating the same in the second game of the decider. From that point onward, Paul faced only two break-points when he served for the match, saving both of them before winning it in five.
He will hope to continue his winning run against Fokina as he starts off an 8/11 favourite with bet365.

Fokina Makes it Successive Straight-Set Wins
Juan Manuel had surprised Ilya Ivashka in the first round after starting out a 2/1 underdog but if he had any thoughts of getting past Fokina in the second, he was sadly mistaken.
Fokina, who had earlier registered a straight-set win over Marcos Giron in the first round, dropped just eight games in the demolition of Cerundolo and sealed his second successive third round spot at the US Open.
A semifinalist the Canadian Masters earlier this month, Fokina was on court for a mere hour and 44 minutes as he registered a 6-1, 6-4, 6-3 win over his opponent.
He was broken twice but got past Cerundolo’s serve on seven occasions to earn the straightforward win. That might not be possible against Paul though given his calibre but Fokina will think he has a chance to go past his 14th-ranked opponent.
The world number 21 is 11/10 (with bet365) to win this.
