Amanda Anisimova v Sabine Lisicki Head to Head

This the first time that the American teenager and the German, twelve years her senior would meet.

Anisimova, the Teenage Record-Breaker

The 2017 Junior US Open Champion is the youngest woman on tour to be ranked in the world’s top 100, and has already set records this year, becoming the youngest player this century, and the first woman born in the 2000s, to reach the fourth round of a major, beating Aryna Sabalenka on the way in Melbourne, before eventually going out.

Her subsequent results, beaten in the second round in Indian Wells and Miami, and going out in the first round in Charleston last week, have not matched that level of performance. In every case, though, she lost to a women higher placed than her in the world rankings, and, at this stage of her fledgling career, they can all be put down as learning experiences.

Lisicki, Recent Career Blighted by Injury

Lisicki has seen injuries blight her tennis career over the past few years, and the former world number twelve and beaten Wimbledon finalist is now ranked just above 300 in the world. That is a far cry from the days when she was a 4-time WTA title winner, and regularly competing for the top prizes.

Now the woman once renowned for having the fastest serve on tour, with booming ground strokes, is desperately searching for form, having failed to win a single match to date this year. Last time out she was beaten in straight sets by Sofia Kenin in Charleston, and will be hoping to go one better at last against her teenage opponent.

Anisimova v Lisicki Predictions & Tips

Anisimova is the overwhelming odds-on favourite to win this match at 3/19, whilst Lisicki is priced at 5/1. Given that Lisicki has yet to win a single’s match in 2019, it seems unlikely that she will get off the mark against her precocious opponent.

Tip: Anisimova to win in straight sets: 6/5 (Betfair)
