Novak Djokovic v Borna Gojo Head to Head

Djokovic and Gojo have never faced off before this.

Djokovic Survives Djere Scare

It’s not often that Djokovic has found himself two sets and even more rarely against a player outside the top 30. But that’s what happened in his third round match against Laslo Djere, who had gone into the encounter as a 20/1 (with bet365) underdog.

Djokovic was forced to come back from there and while he did that comfortably in the end, that might be a bit of a scare for a player who is gunning for his 24th Grand Slam title.

Or, as some might say, it could be a case of that one match that Djokovic needs and usually goes through in a scrappy manner as he prepares for the far tougher opponents in the rest of the tournament.

Either way, a 4-6, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1, 6-3 result might be a rare one for the world number two but not too much of a worry as he takes to court against a player who has never seen the inside of a top-100 ranking.

Djokovic shouldn’t have a lot of issues here as a result and while there might be a bit of an adjustment to make against someone he hasn’t played before he should live up to his 1/33 (bet365) odds to win it.

Gojo Continues to Surprise

Having begun his Grand Slam journey in 2021 when he made it to the third qualifying round at the Australian Open, it was until the 2022 French Open that Gojo finally qualified for the main draw there.

He had made the second round there before falling in the qualifiers of the remaining two majors of 2022. Gojo then missed the Australian Open earlier this year, fell in the second qualifier at the French Open before finally making the first round at Wimbledon as well.

Gojo has taken a few steps beyond that now.

Once again a qualifier – and referred to as a ‘professional qualifier’ by some on social media, Gojo has now won three successive rounds to enter the fourth round. His latest victim after having gotten past Hugo Dellien and stunned Mackenize McDonald was Jiri Vesely whom he defeated in straight sets.

That makes it his fifth successive straight-set win in the tournament and while that might not count for a lot coming up against Djokovic, Gojo will be slightly more confident than what you expect your typical 105th-ranked player to be.

The good news for Gojo is either ways he will end this tournament with fond memories and a place in the top 80 of the ATP Rankings for the first time in his career. He starts off an 18/1 (with bet365) underdog here.

Djokovic v Gojo Prediction and Tip

Djokovic shouldn’t have a lot of problems here but we do think that Gojo’s spirited performances in this tournament do count for something. Expecting him to put up a fight in at least one of the sets.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Djokovic to win AND Over 29.5 games in the match: 1/1 (with bet365)
