Iga Swiatek v Jelena Ostapenko Head to Head

This is a rather stunning record with Ostapenko having won at all their three previous meetings including twice in hardcourt competitions. Their last match-up came in Dubai last year.

Swiatek in Stupendous Form against Juvan

Much like what was the case in the first round when Swiatek dropped just one game against Rebecca Peterson, she was ruthless in her demolition of her third round opponent – and friend – Kaja Juvan.

Swiatek registered a 6-0, 6-1 win over Juvan in a match lasting a mere 50 minutes – probably one of the shortest matches of the tournament so far.

What was so fascinating about the win was the manner in which Swiatek won all but five points on her own serve while also clinching 22 of the 32 points on her opponent’s serving. Juvan only managed to win one game in the fourth game of the second set, scraping through off her first and only game-point of the match there

This followed a slightly more hard-fought second round victory against Daria Saville for Swiatek but given the one-sided nature of two of her victories it does look like Swiatek is back at her clinical best.

Despite her poor record against Ostapenko, Swiatek starts off a 1/10 (with bet365) favourite against her.

Third Successive Three-Setter for Ostapenko

Ostapenko is nothing, if not a fighter. While some fans might not quite enjoy her antics on court, there is no doubting her never-say-die attitude and that has been on display throughout this tournament.

For the third successive time, Ostapenko entered her match as a heavy favourite, starting out at 1/4 odds with bet365 to defeat Bernarda Pera. And again, she was forced to take the long route to her win.

In fact this time around, Ostapenko dropped the first set after being 2-0 up and it took her some effort to turn things around and clinch the remaining two in a match of fluctuating fortunes.

An hour and 50 minutes later, the Latvian number one had registered a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win despite losing her serve five times in the encounter.

Against Swiatek, Ostapenko will need to do a lot better than that with her serving if she wants to make a match of it. Not surprisingly, she is a heavy second favourite but at 6/1 (with bet365) despite her win-loss record against Swiatek one might have a bit of a chance.

Swiatek v Ostapenko Prediction and Tip

While we expect Swiatek to win and might even do that in straight sets, we do think that Ostapenko won’t make it that easy for the world number one.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Swiatek to win AND Over 17.5 games in the match: 20/21 (with bet365)
