Aryna Sabalenka v Qinwen Zheng Head to Head

Sabalenka and Zheng have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Sabalenka Routs Kasatkina

Having entered the US Open this year on the back of not made the final of any tennis event since the Madrid Open in May, Sabalenka wasn’t quite the top favourite to win the title. Even during the hardcourt swing in North America before this, she had been dumped out in the third round in Montreal and lost her semifinal in Cincinnati.

Suddenly, it looks like she has acquired new wings as she has dominated her opponents in style all of this tournament.

In the four rounds that Sabalenka has featured in so far, the Belarusian has taken down all her opponents in straight sets. The most number of games she’s lost in a match has been five and the latest of the victims of her impressive tennis was Daria Kasatkina.

Kasatkina is no mug but against Sabalenka she just fell apart, losing 6-1, 6-3 in a match that lasted a mere hour and 16 minutes.

And sure, Sabalenka lost her serve thrice but she never trailed Kasatkina and in the end, eased to her victory.

No surprises then that Sabalenka starts off a 2/7 favourite to win this (with bet365) and seal her spot in the semis.

Zheng Ends Jabeur’s Run

Ons Jabeur hasn’t had the best of tournaments because of her health issues and an in-form Qinwen took full toll of her opponent’s discomfiture as she raced away to a straight-set win.

Qinwen Zheng, who had overcome Nadia Podoroska, Kaia Kanepi and Lucia Bronzetti in her first three rounds, faced her first top-10 player of the tournament and the sixth time she did that this season. And an hour and 24 minutes later, she had registered her fourth career win over a player ranked in the top 10 on the WTA charts.

The Tunisian number one fought on gamely, especially after dropping the first set as she levelled the second at 2-2 but from that point onward things began to get tougher for her.

Qinwen broke her two more times to earn herself a chance to register a 6-2, 6-2 win and while Jabeur pulled one back, the Chinese woman finished off the encounter off her fourth match-point.

This brings Qinwen to her first ever career Grand Slam quarterfinal in what is just her second year playing tennis at that level. Can she overcome the 11/4 odds on offer with bet365 for her win here?

Sabalenka v Zheng Prediction and Tip

Sabalenka hasn’t faced any resistance in the tournament so far and that’s what Zheng will try to do – try and find a way to make it difficult for her opponent.

At the moment, with the kind of momentum that Sabalenka has and having reached number one in the world following Iga Swiatek’s exit, it could be a near-impossible task for Zheng but she won’t go away with a fight.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 4/5 (with bet365)
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Games Handicap Zheng +4.5: 5/6 (with bet365)
