Ekaterina Alexandrova v Jelena Ostapenko Head to Head

At the WTA level they have faced off five times and Alexandrova leads 4-1. Alexandrova is also 2-0 in outdoor hardcourt competitions.

Alexandrova Hoping to Inch Back to Her Best

Having fallen to 26th in the world three months ago, Alexandrova looks to be inching back to her best. After reaching the third round of the US Open last year, she will enter this tournament having swung upward to 19th on the WTA charts, climbing up a spot from the start of that major.

And it’s not like her performance at the US Open was a flash in the pan with the Russian having also reached the final of the Cleveland Open before that.

Alexandrova, who had featured in only one hardcourt match before that on the North American hardcourt swing – losing her Cincinnati Open – looks to have done well following her five-week layoff since Wimbledon.

She will not start off a favourite here though as she takes on the toast of the US Open, with Alexandrova starting out a 1/1 (bet365) underdog here.

Ostapenko Coming off US Open Quarterfinal

It continues to remain a season to remember for Ostapenko who enters this competition on the back of her best ever performance at the US Open earlier this week.

The Latvian number one will jump up five places when the new rankings are released on Monday to 16th in the world thanks to her quarterfinal appearance at the season’s final Grand Slam.

And more vitally, Ostapenko achieved that with a comeback from behind victory over the world number one Iga Swiatek as she made it 4-0 on the head to head against the Polish player.

While Ostapenko proved to be no match for Cori Gauff in the quarterfinal, she has shown she belongs in the top 20 of the rankings with her performances all season. Already a winner of a WTA title this season, Ostapenko will give herself a solid chance here as she looks to make it to the second round.

It won’t be easy but Ostapenko starts an 8/11 favourite (with bet365).

Alexandrova v Ostapenko Prediction and Tip

Not much to choose between these two and to be honest this seems more a later-stages match-up than a first round one. Ostapenko could edge forward
