It looked to have been a solid start to the season for Linette who won three of her four singles matches at the United Cup and then went on to make it to the semifinal at the Australian Open.
There was a quarterfinal appearance at the Merida Open and a fourth round showing in Miami too but since then Linette’s form has been all over the place.
A third round appearance at Wimbledon recently was her first instance of back to back wins in nine tournaments but she followed that up with one win from her following four matches. This included an opening round defeat at the Canadian Open and Cincinnati before she managed to make it to the second round at the US Open.
And then again at Flushing Meadows, Linette was sent packing by Jennifer Brady.

Kostyuk on a Four-Match Losing Streak
While Kostyuk is still a top-40 player with her career-best ranking of 32nd on the WTA charts, she has been on a bit of a rocky road with respect to her recent performances.
Since making the Washington Open quarterfinals, Kostyuk has won nothing as a result of that.
She was taken out by Luidmilla Samsonova there before losing to Qinwen Zheng, Jasime Paolini and Elena Rybakina in the openers of tournaments following that. Making matters worse is Kostyuk has won just one set in this four-match losing streak and showed absolutely no signs of any fight there.
Which is why Kostyuk will need a major turnaround here but she will also know she has done well in hardcourt competitions earlier this year having won a title in Austin in March.
