Baindl Much-Improved in Recent Times

While Baindl was knocked out in the first round of the US Open, her performances in the lead-up to that had been reasonably solid.

Solid enough to help her jump up the rankings from being 98th in the world at the end of July to her current 83rd on the WTA charts.

A quarterfinal appearance at the Prague Open was followed by second round in Stanford and Baindl then made it to the quarterfinal in Chicago as well – the last two events a part of the WTA 125 series of tournaments.

Unfortunately for Baindl, she was forced to retire from her Chicago Open quarterfinal and followed it up with a shock loss at the hands of Karolina Schmiedlova at the US Open.

Can she turn that around against her 19-year-old opponent despite starting out a 6/5 underdog (at bet365)

Krueger Hasn’t Won a Main Draw Match Since June

While Krueger has shown vast amounts of improvement this season having climbed up to a career-best of 108th from her February ranking of 183rd. Over the last couple of months, however, Krueger hasn’t been able to maintain the same level of tennis.

Her results, at least, haven’t made much of a mark since then.

Since winning a WTA 125 title on the grass courts of Gaiba, Krueger has failed to qualify for Wimbledon, then missed it again at the Washington Open and Montreal Open before losing her openers at the Stanford Open and the US Open.

The question now is if she can get past an opponent who has had her own issues despite Krueger’s own lack of form and confidence? Krueger starts off a bookmakers’ favourite here at 3/5 (with bet365).

Baindl v Krueger Prediction and Tip

These are two players who have struggled to get going and we see a lot of fight in a bid to make the second round. It could go to the third set but even if it doesn’t there could be two evenly-fought sets.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 4/5 (with bet365)
