Nadia Podoroska v Yue Yuan Head to Head

Podoroska and Yuan have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Podoroska Won Just One Game at the US Open

More known for her performances on clay, Podoroska had made a direct entry into the US Open and while she was never the favourite going into her opener against Qinwen Zheng, she would have expected to do a lot better than her eventual showing.

In a match that didn’t last even an hour, Podoroska won just one game on her way of the competition.

That was a bit of a surprise given that Podoroska has won matches on this surface in the past, including at the Australian Open where she had gotten past Leolia Jeanjean. Beating Jeanjean, however, is one thing to get past a player in the top 30 quite another.

The good news for Podoroska is she will now be up against a player who is ranked 100th in the world and is coming off a three-match losing streak too. The not so great news is that even then, bet365 has pegged at 10/11 to win this.

Yuan on a Three-Match Losing Streak

Having made the semifinal of a WTA 125 event in Stanford, Yuan lost that match last month to Kamila Rakhimova. It was a fighting performance and should have given Yuan a bit of a confidence going into the US Open qualifiers but that’s not how things panned out for her.

Yuan then fell in the very first qualifier at the US Open and having then featured in an ITF tournament in Tokyo earlier this week, she was beaten in the very first round. Yuan had gone into that encounter as a 1/7 favourite with bet365.

She has had a few good results going her way this year but given the difficulties she has had to adjust here, Yuan will be up against it.

The only reason why she doesn’t quite start a second favourite is the manner in which her opponent has continued to lose matches. In fact she might even hold a bit of an edge.

Podoroska v Yuan Prediction and Tip

We think Yuan looks better placed to win this as opposed to a player who has struggled to get going on this surface. At 10/11, Yuan is a good bet to go with.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Yuan to win: 10/11 (with bet365)
  • Low Risk Tip: Over 8.5 games in the first set: 2/5 (with bet365)
