World no. 184 Himeno Sakatsume qualified for the main draw of the Japan Open with a three set win over Eudice Chong in the second qualifying round on Sunday.

Sakatsume saved half of eight break points that she faced and converted 7 of 9 to win the two hour and 20 minute contest 6-3, 5-7, 6-0.

The Japanese player had beaten compatriot Natsumi Kawaguchi 6-3, 6-3 in the first qualifying round.

The 22-year-old has a season record of 34-16 this year. She is 18-8 on hard courts and has played in three ITF finals this season, winning the title in Gifu, while finishing runner-up in the two Canadian tournaments.

Eala Rallies Past Park to Qualify

Like Sakatsume, Alexandra Eala too needed three sets to wn her second qualifying round and qualify for the main draw.

Eala lost the first set in the second qualifying round against Sohyun Park, but bounced back to win the contest 4-6, 6-1, 7-5.

The Philippines player had won her first qualifying round match against Fernanda Contreras Gomez, beating the Mexican 6-3, 6-4. Currently ranked at a career high of no. 195 in the world, Eala is in terrific form at the moment.

She reached back-to-back ITF finals in Roehampton 2 and Aldershot in August, winning the former and finishing runner-up in the latter. IN the last 16 matches played across levels, Eala has a 14-2 record.

Overall, she is 34-17 this year and 33 of those wins have come on hard courts.
