Aliaksandra Sasnovich v Emma Navarro Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the Cleveland Open last month and Sasnovich had won a fighting three-setter.

Qualifier Sasnovich Shocks Bencic

She hadn’t taken too much time in getting past her opponents in the two qualifying rounds but then not too many would have expected her to go too much farther than that. After all, Sasnovich was starting off a 13/5 underdog in her opener (at bet365) against the world number 15, Belinda Bencic.

What transpired was some inspired bit of tennis from the former top-30 player as she fought through 12 break-points – and four breaks of serves – against her to clinch a three-set win over Bencic.

Sasnovich needed two hours and 19 minutes to overcome Bencic, winning 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

While it looked like Bencic had lost the first set against the run of playing – losing five games in a row after having taken a 3-1 lead – she retaliated back with two breaks of serves in the second set to level things.

What shocked the onlookers was the manner in which Sasnovich rallied from 2-2 in the decider to break Bencic two more times and grab the win.

Can she now edge out Navarro as well?

Navarro Eases Past Paolini

Like Sasnovich, Navarro had also kick-started the competition in the qualifying rounds and like her, she made it to the main draw on the back of successive qualifying wins.

Navarro hadn’t gone into her opener quite the second favourite but at 10/11 (with bet365) against Jasmine Paolini things could have gone either way.

They went Navarro’s way as she staved off a fighting Paolini in the first set before bagelling her in the second. In a match lasting an hour and 26 minutes, Navarro won 7-5, 6-0, having gotten past her opponent’s serve a whopping six times.

In fact, at one stage, she was 2-5 down in the first set only to come back and win 11 games in a row and with that, the match.

Navarro will have the support of the home crowd for this one but she will have to play better than she did the last time she had squared off with Sasnovich.

Sasnovich v Navarro Prediction and Tip

This could turn out to be another hard-fought encounter like their last one which sees Sasnovich edge out Navarro in three sets again.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/5 (with bet365)
