Nadia Podoroska v Mai Hontama Head to Head

Podoroska and Hontama have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Podoroska Struggles to Overcome Yuan

A clay-court specialist, Podoroska hasn’t had the best of seasons in hardcourt competitions and that was on show even when she took to court in her opener against Yue Yuan.

Despite playing against someone ranked outside the top 130, Podoroska was forced on to the court for nearly three hours before she managed to come back to win 7-5 in the final set.

Podoroska was broken six times in the match, but she herself earned 21 break-point opportunities of which she converted seven. The last of those seven came in the 12th game of the third set as she converted her second match-point in the match to clinch a 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 win.

The Argentine now has a rare chance of propelling forward in a hardcourt competition as she takes on a player ranked 176th in the world. No surprises then that Podoroska starts off a 2/5 favourite with bet365.

Hontama in a Rare Main Draw Win

Hontama had reached the quarterfinal of the Stanford Open, a WTA 125 competition played earlier this year, but other than that she hadn’t won a main draw match this season.

That’s before Hontama overcame Su Jeong Jang in a topsy-turvy three-setter in the first round of this competition.

The Japanese wildcard needed two hours and 21 minutes in the end but was able to come through 7-5, 0-6, 6-2 to enter the second round.

Jang lost her serve five times in the match, and whole she was able to do the same to Hontama, her Japanese opponent made it count when it really mattered – in the final set. She broke Jang thrice there to grab the victory.

In this match against the clay-court specialist, Hontama will start off a 21/10 underdog with bet365.

Podoroska v Hontama Prediction and Tip
