Xinyu Wang v Yulia Putintseva Head to Head

Wang and Putintseva have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Wang Ahead in Race to be China’s Number Two

This is turning out to be an interesting race between two of China’s current best tennis players on the women’s circuit. Xinyu Wang had started off the tournament at her career-best ranking of 39th and by winning the first two rounds here in Osaka is now 36th on the WTA charts.

Just one spot behind her is Lin Zhu, who has also made the quarterfinals in this tournament and is just two points short of Wang.

What that means is that for Wang to continue to hold firm with that lead, she will need to do one better than Zhu. Even better still, the kind of form that Wang has been in recent times, she will be gunning for her maiden WTA title having never reached the final of a tournament like this before.

Wang, who had made the fourth round at the US Open earlier this month, has come back strongly to defeat Jil Teichmann and Himeno Sakatsume and reached the last eight stage here. She is a slight favourite at 4/5 (at bet365) to win this.

Putintseva Sends Savinykh Away

Putintseva did not exhibit too much form coming into this tournament but her twin wins so far have come in expansive ways. The Kazakh first dropped just five games in her opening round win over Diana Parry and improved upon that too with a straight-set rout of Valeria Savinykh in the second.

In a match that lasted a mere hour and 19 minutes, Putintseva saved all five of the break-points she faced while breaking her opponent a whopping five times in return. She won 6-1, 6-2 to march on.

The result was never in doubt right from the time Putintseva broke Savinykh in the third game of the opening set and once she had wrapped up the set and grabbed a 3-0 lead, it was only a matter of time.

By winning this encounter, Putintseva had registered her first set of back to back victories since Bastad in July. It was also the first time she won successive matches in a hardcourt competition since Hobart in January. Can she make it three in three for only the second time in 2023?

Putintseva is 1/1 to win this at bet365.

Wang v Putintseva Prediction and Tip

It’s interesting to see that Putintseva is as short as 1/1 to win this despite her form as opposed to her opponent who has had the time of her life. Backing Wang to win this.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Wang to win: 4/5 (with bet365)
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Wang to win in straight sets: 2/1 (with bet365)
