Ekaterina Alexandrova v Magdalena Frech Head to Head
Their only meeting at the highest level came at the 2018 French Open and Frech had won that in three sets. In two previous matches on the ITF circuit, it was Alexandrova who had come through a winner.

While Alexandrova was ousted in the first round of the San Diego Open in week leading up to this competition in Guadalajara, her overall performance this season and more so in the second half has been solid if not spectacular.
Alexandrova won her first title of the season in June in Rosmalen and followed that up with a semifinal appearance at the Berlin Open and a fourth round showing at Wimbledon.
After an early ouster in the first tournament she played on the North American hardcourt swing, Alexandrova made the final of the Cleveland Open and then a third round at the US Open followed. She would have liked to enter the second week there but for an in-form Wimbledon winner Marketa Vondrousova ending her stay there.

Frech Routs Osorio
There wasn’t too much between French and Osorio when they faced off in the first round of this tournament but it was very obvious from the get-go where the match was headed.
Frech dropped just three games in her crushing win over Osorio, needing a mere 73 minutes to pull off the victory. Two early breaks in each of the two sets were enough to give Frech the advantage as she clinched a 6-1, 6-2 win.
Since having reached the quarterfinal of the Birmingham International in June, Frech had won a mere one main draw match before this opener.
This victory over Osorio and more importantly the manner of this win will be a cause for a huge relief but she now faces a difficult opponent in round two. Can Frech put up a similar fight here?
