Eugenie Bouchard v Renate Zarazua Head to Head

They have never played each before. This will be the first match between the 29 year old Canadian, and the Mexican, four years her junior.

Time for Bouchard to Let Her Tennis Do the Talking

Bouchard is one of the players who could not resist taking to social media to express their pleasure at the suspension handed down to Simona Halep.

It continues her strong stance against players she has suspected of doping, with Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine another in her spotlight, with the pair clashing after their recent second round meeting at the US Open.

However, now is the time for her to get back to her tennis, and to try and regain some of her former glories – she was once ranked as high as five in the world before injuries and a sustained loss of form combined to take their toll.

And perhaps playing in Mexico again could inspire her – it was in Zapopan since she reached her last WTA final – which she lost – back in March, 2021.

Green shoots of recovery in 2023 have been few and far between though, and she has not been further than the second round of any main tour tournament this year.

This will be her first match since that bad tempered defeat by Yastremska.

Tennis Runs in the Family for Zarazua

Zarazua will likely be much more conflicted about Halep’s ban, having previously stated that she is the current player that she admires the most.

Tennis is in her blood, with a great uncle who played Davis Cup and won medals at the 1968 Olympics, when it was an exhibition sport, and an older brother who used to play on the American college circuit.

Her greatest achievement arguably came three years ago, when she reached the semi-finals of the Mexican Open, although, she can put alongside that her feat of becoming the first Mexican woman to qualify for a Grand Slam in twenty years when she reached the first round of the French Open that same year.

She has enjoyed a good season on the ITF tour, reaching four finals and winning two of them, the most recent of which was in Lexington last month.

This, though, will be the first time she has appeared in the main draw of a WTA event this year.

Bouchard v Zarazua Prediction and Tip

Zarazua will have home court advantage, and, although this is her first main draw appearance of the year, she has been showing some form on the ITF circuit. Bouchard, on the other hand, has been struggling, and is not the player that she was at her peak.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Zarazua to win: 5/7 (with bet365)
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 25.5 games in the match: 5/4 (with bet365)
