Pliskova Continues to Struggle
Once ranked number one in the world and having hit a season-high of 14th in May, Pliskova’s struggles in recent times have been real and consistent.
In fact, since winning two successive matches at the Stuttgart Open in April, Pliskova hasn’t repeated the same again over the following 10 tournaments that she has played in.
It’s actually worse than that given that Pliskova has won a mere three matches from the following 14 that she has been a part of.
More recently, she fell to Clara Burel at the US Open despite starting out a 9/20 favourite (with bet365) and then lost to the struggling Anhelina Kalinina at the San Diego Open.
There is a silver lining in all this for Pliskova. She had started the season out ranked 31st on the WTA charts and was able to get some of her rhythm back to hit 14th by May. Can she repeat that showing over the next couple of months leading to the end of the year?

Shibahara is a Doubles Specialist
Shibahara is as much a doubles specialist as one can get. Over the years, having first started playing Grand Slam tennis in 2016, she has never done better than 416th in the world of singles but was ranked fourth on the doubles charts.
And that has been thanks to the consistence in performances on the doubles circuits – a seven-time semifinalist and three-time finalist in WTA 1000 and Grand Slam tournaments, with one of those resulting in a title win too.
In singles competitions, however, Shibahara has done nothing of note. Which is also she was a 1/1 underdog (at bet365) against Whitney Osuigwe and and 3/1 (with bet365) against Sachia Vickery, but strangely enough won both those matches for the loss of four and five games respectively.
Against Pliskova, however, things might not get that easy.
Pliskova v Shibahara Prediction and Tip
Pliskova, despite her form issues, should not have a lot of problems here and should clinch her second round spot with a straight set win.
Tips:
- Low Risk Tip: Pliskova to win in straight sets: 1/2 (with bet365)
- Moderate Risk Tip: Under 19.5 games in the match: 5/6 (with bet365)
