Yastremska Will Look to Draw Inspiration from Kozerki Win

It has not been a productive year for the 23-year-old Dayana Yastremska, but the Ukrainian will be eager to start off well in Guadalajara as she aims to break into the top 100 once again.

A former no. 21, Yastremska started the year at no. 101, she briefly touch 99 before falling beyond no. 150. However, she has slowly climbed up the rankings to no. 105.

That up and down movement in the rankings is an indication of how inconsistent she has been in the season. But one good thing that happened to her recently was that she picked up her maiden WTA 125 title by winning the Kozerki Open in Poland in August.

It was the first time she had reached a Challenger final and she won that by beating Greet Minnen.

Apart from that success she has had just one semifinal appearance this year and that was in the WTA 125 in Reus. However, when it comes to tour level events, she has a 4-13 record this year. Can she improve that record in Guadalajara?

Sanchez Comes through Qualifiers

Ana Sofia Sanchez of Mexico reached her first tour level main draw of the season when she ousted Veronica Miroshnichenko in the second qualifying round on Saturday.

Sanchez, the 437th ranked played in the world, saved 3 of 5 break points and converted 4 of 9 to win the one hour and 35 minute contest 7-6, 6-2 against a player ranked 25 places higher than her.

Sanchez had won her first qualifying round match against world no. 388 María Herazo González. The Mexican rallied from a set down to win the three and a half hour contest 5-7, 7-6 (7-2), 6-1.

The 29-year-old has played in two ITF semifinals this season. Can she put on a gallant show in the opener against Yastremska?
