Belinda Bencic v Taylor Townsend Head to Head
Bencic won their only meeting in Charleston in 2019.
At the junior level, Bencic had beaten Townsend in the Wimbledon girls final in 2013.

Belinda Bencic will look to quickly overcome last week’s setback in San Diego, where she went down to Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the first round.
Bencic, who lost in the second round in Guadalajara last year, is 31-13 in 2023.
The Swiss player, ranked no. 15th in the world, has featured in three finals this year, winning the titles in Adelaide-2 and Abu Dhabi and finishing runner-up in Charleston.
She has not gone that deep since that run in Charleston, but has been in decent form recently, reaching the quarterfinals in Washington and Montreal and finishing in the round of 16 in the last two majors.
An eight time champion from 18 finals, Bencic is one of the favourites in this tournament and the fifth seed could go deep in the tournament.

Townsend Beats Tomljanovic
After a strong showing at the US Open, where she reached the third round, Taylor Townsend got off to a fine start in Guadalajara, beating Ajla Tomljanovic in straight sets.
The world no. 101 saved four set points in the final game of the first set, before edging it in the tiebreak.
In the second set, Townsend dropped serve in the very first game, but she made a strong comeback in the later half of the set. She won the last four games in a row and took the one hour and 51 minute contest 7-6 (7-3), 6-4.
Townsend, who was a finalist in the WTA Challenger tournament in Florence this year, is 20-14 across levels. Can she build on the first round win and upset the fifth seed?
