Victoria Azarenka v Dayana Yastremska Head to Head

Azarenka and Yastremska have faced off twice before this and both have won one match each. Yastremska clinched their Toronto Open encounter of 2019 and then in 2022 in Washington, Azarenka extracted her revenge.

Azarenka Blasts Montgomery Away

It did not take Azarenka to too long to register her fourth successive opening round win in a tournament as she routed Robin Montgomery in straight sets.

In a match lasting 70 minutes, Azarenka clinched a 6-1, 6-1 win as she broke Montgomery five times from the five chances she got. In turn, Azarenka faced three break-points, saving all of them as she went on to win 19 of her 20 first serve points.

Azarenka’s bigger worry will come in this second round match and that’s to do with her recent performances.

At three successive tournaments before this, including one at the US Open, Azarenka has either lost or withdrawn from her second round match. And in a competition just before that in Washington, she had been blasted out in the opener.

Can she now make it successive wins for the first time since Wimbledon 2023 where she had made the fourth round. Azarenka is 2/7 (bet365) to win this.

Yastremska Stumbles to a Win

She was 1/16 (at bet365) to clinch her opener against Ana Sofia Sanchez, a Mexican ranked outside the top 400 but Yastremska made heavy weather of making it through to the second round.

Yastremska might have won it in straight sets but was on court for nearly two hours and was forced to overcome four breaks of serves. This included two in the first set when Yastremska led by a break only to drop her serve in the very next game.

In the second set, the script looked to be repeating when Yastremska went a break ahead twice again but was broken back both times.

It was in the fifth game that Yastremska gained her third break in a row against Sanchez and went on to hold on, despite facing break-points in two separate games.

With Yastremska having struggled for form all year and having found it difficult to get going against a player not even in the top 400, it does look like she might have it difficult against Azarenka. Not surprisingly, she starts off a distant second favourite at 11/4 (with bet365) here.

Azarenka v Yastremska Prediction and Tip

Azarenka should not have a lot of difficulties here with a straight-set win looking most likely against a player who has been unable to take off with any kind of momentum at the highest level.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Azarenka to win in straight sets: 8/11 (with bet365)
