Taro Hopeful Of Continued Success
Daniel Taro was known as a predominantly clay player, but this year, he started to produce a really high level on hard courts. He’s a very aggressive player who enjoys playing short rallies, so he’s always a threat. He doesn’t always have the hitting consistently, but he fights for every point and is a very tough out on most days.
Lately, we’ve seen him produce some really solid tennis, which is reflected in his 19-11 hard-court record. On the year he’s 29-24 so it’s been a pretty solid experience for him. Chengdu is obviously an event he never played before, so this is new, and the opponent is not an easy one.
Much will come down to how Taro approaches this matchup because Vukic can hit about as well as he can, and the Australian has arguably the better serve out of the two. To overcome that, Taro will need to outplay him from the baseline.
He’s the small favourite simply because his tennis is trending upward while Vukic is going the other way.

Vukic Struggling Lately
When you look at this most recent results, you would be shocked to see ‘struggling in the title. There is a reason for that, and while he has been pretty okay lately, it’s not bene as good as he was earlier this year. The Australian was on a pace for a Top 30 finish in the year with the way he played.
He was never going to sustain it obviously but even with the small regression this year has been spectacular for him. He’s 46-28 right now and 32-16 on hard courts, which is very impressive.
Much of his success comes down to his really precise serve and his baseline play, which can be really tricky to handle. He can hit winners from both his forehand and backhand, though the former is the stronger shot.
I don’t think he’s playing better tennis than Taro right now, but he doesn’t need to, especially if he can serve as well as he’s been this year.
Daniel v Vukic Prediction and Tip
I don’t see either being ahead of the other in any respect, so I’m going to back the over, betting on both showing up with a decent level. I think it will be a close one because they are close in level.

- Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6 (with bet365)
