Rebeka Masarova v Viktorija Golubic Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came in Gstaad in 2016 and Golubic had won that clay court encounter easily.

Masarova Registers Win over Baindl
It took Masarova some time to get going but an hour and 42 minutes later, she had registered a straight-set win over Kateryna Baindl to seal off a second round berth.
Striking a whopping 11 aces in the encounter, Masarova overcame an early break of serve in both the sets to ease to a 7-5, 6-2 win over Baindl. Both times, it was Masarova who grabbed the early lead, going 2-0 up but lost her serve in the very next game.
The first set saw Masarova unable to break again till the 12th game having frittered away three set-points in the previous game. In the second set, however, she broke right back in the fourth game and then again in the eighth to seal off the win.
Masarova had earlier made it to the second round of the US Open as well with a shock win over Maria Sakkari and as a result of that and her opponent’s lower ranking, starts off a 4/6 favourite with bet365.

Qualifier Golubic Dispels Marino
With Golubic having struggled through most part of the year, having fallen from a season high of 76th at the start of 2023 to a low of 150th on the WTA charts, she has shown some signs of resurrection in recent times.
First she climbed up to 117th on the rankings and while she fell back to 136th, Golubic entered this tournament ranked 106th in the world. This was thanks to her performance on the ITF circuit where she won a title earlier this month.
Still, Golubic was forced to feature in the qualifiers here. Fortunately for her, she came through those and set up a first round meeting with Rebecca Marino whom she brushed aside easily, winning 6-4, 6-3.
Golubic was on court for an hour and 16 minutes, shrugging a break of serve in both the sets aside to find herself a win.
She will now start a second favourite against Masarova but we won’t be counting her out despite starting out at 11/10 (with bet365) to win this.

Masarova might be a favourite but we think this could go very close with Golubic pushing it into a third. From there on, it could be anyone’s match.
