Andy Murray v Yecong Mo Head to Head

Murray and Mo have never faced off before this.

Murray Returns from Surprise US Open Ouster

While Grigor Dimitrov was an 8/11 favourite going into his second round match against Murray, not too many would have expected the Brit to fall away in straight sets. But that’s exactly what happened as Murray won a mere eight games in that best-of-five match to be left with question-marks over his future.

Murray did return to feature in one singles match at the Davis Cup which he went on to win but the more interesting bit would be how he goes about his business in this last phase of the season.

He enters this tournament having played here in 2019 and made the second round, but more vitally without too many points to defend from after the US Open. Last year, he had won three main draw matches on the ATP circuit following the season’s final Grand Slam and that’s something he would like to change around this year.

A long run here could be a chance as Murray looks to close in on his best ranking of 36th over the last five years. He starts off a 1/33 favourite here with bet365 to win this.

Mo Enters with a Career-Best Ranking of 652nd

23-year-old Mo hasn’t played too much tennis even on the Challenger circuit, let alone at the highest competitive level. This will be his ATP debut as he enters this tournament as a wildcard.

Mo’s short competitive tennis career consists of one title so far and that came on the Futures circuit. Incidentally he won that title on clay in 2019 but since then hasn’t quite done too much of note.

This year, Mo has made it to the semifinal of five Futures competitions which is a big improvement from the previous season in which he had spent a lot of time trying to make it through the qualifiers there.

What Mo also attempted to do was to play a Challenger tournament last week in Guangzhou but was beaten in straight sets there. Expect something similar here too as he starts off 14/1 (with bet365) to win this.

Murray v Mo Prediction and Tip

Murray shouldn’t have any trouble here and a 6-2, 6-2 sort of a scoreline looks par for the course.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 17.5 games in the match: 5/6 (with bet365)
