Cristian Garin v Yi Zhou Head to Head

The pair have never met before. This will be the first match between the 27 year old Chilean, and the Chinese, who is nine years younger.

A Season to Forget for Garin

Two years ago Garin was a top 20 player and regularly contending for titles, especially in clay court events.

Yet the slide that began in 2022 has continued, and he has even lost his Chilean number one status to Nicolas Jarry.

A broken rib that he suffered before the start of the French Open did not help his prospects either.

That does not mean his season has been devoid of any highlights. He did reach the fourth round in Indian Wells, and he beat the world number four, Casper Ruud, in that tournament.

Ruud got his revenge in Hamburg, and Garin has not won a main draw match since, and failed to qualify for the US Open.

He did, though, win one of his singles matches playing for Chile in the Davis Cup.

Chinese Teenage Wildcard Zhou

Zu is just 18, and will be making his main tour debut in Zhuhai having been granted a wildcard.

As recently as a few months ago he was playing junior tennis, reaching the semi-finals of the boys’ singles in Melbourne, the last 16 of Wimbledon, and the quarter-finals of the US Open, where he was seeded ninth.

He has also begun to appear in ITF events, and got to the semi-final of a tournament in June which was also staged in China, this time in Tianjin.

And, in his last visit to Zhuhai in August, he got through to the third round of a Challenger event.

Garin v Zhou Prediction and Tip

With more than 800 places separating their world rankings, this appears a mismatch on paper and represents an enormous step-up in class for Zhou compared to the calibre of opponent that he is used to playing.

He can enjoy the experience, because he has minimal expectation of winning.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Garin to win: 1/16 (with bet365)
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 20.5 games in the match: 11/20 (with bet365)
