Lajovic Has Been in Decent Touch This Year

A quarterfinalist in 2017, Dusan Lajovic will be making his fourth appearance in Chengdu.

The world no. 52 is 20-18 at the tour level and 27-21 across levels in 2023.

He had a solid run on clay, and ended a four-year title drought by winning his second ATP title in Banja Luka, where he beat Andrey Rublev in the final. Lajovic had also beaten Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinal of that tournament to score a first-ever win over a world no. 1.

Among the other highlights for the Serbian this year were quarterfinal finishes in Buenos Aires, Rio and Santiago.

Most recently he was in the round of 16 in Cincinnati, lost a close five-set opening round match at the US Open and finished with a 1-1 record in the Davis Cup.

So he is indecent touch and is expected to make a good start in the tournament.

Bergs Receives a Wild Card

World no. 172 Zizou Bergs has been handed a wild card for the tournament.

The Belgian is 29-22 across levels this season. However, when it comes to tour level matches he has won just 3 of his 11 matches this year.

Bergs’ best this season came in Gstaad, where he was a quarterfinalist. At the Challenger level, he won the title in Tallahassee and was a semifnalist in Surbiton.

Can the 24-year-old make an impressive start in Chengdu?
