Ruusuvuori Has Had an Up-and-Down Season

World no. 57 Emil Ruusuvuori has done a decent job this year, but despite getting wins in the initial rounds, he has not been able to go deep in too many tournaments.

Ruusuvuori brings a 27-25 tour level record into the tournament. That record includes a maiden ATP quarterfinal in Miami and a semifinal finish in ‘s-Hertigenbosch.

Most recently he reached the round of 16 in Washington and Cincinnati and featured in the Davis cup last week, where he won two singles matches and lost one.

The Finn, who has one runner-up finish at the tour level, had started the year at no. 40 and has seen lots of fluctuations in the rankings due to his inconsistent performances this year.

Rinderknech Has Struggled This Year

Taking on Ruusuvuori will be Arthur Rinderknech, who will be playing for the first time since losing in the third round of the US Open.

The Frenchman is 22-24 across levels, but at the tour level he has a poor 11-18 record this year.

Rinderknech has two quarterfinal finishes this year. One was in Mallorca, where he was a lucky loser and the other was in Ktzbuhel on clay.

The world no. 67 won a fifth Challenger title in Zug, Switzerland this year and was a semifinalist in Pau Challenger. Overall he has been at his best on clay and grass. Hard court has been the least preferred for him this season as he has a 3-7 season record on the surface.

He is coming off his best ever major performance, can he start with a win?
